  Executive DirectorQuinte Humane Society, Belleville, OntarioWe’re looking for a self-starter to lead and manage the Quinte Humane Society (QHS) in its mission to prevent cruelty to animals that are neglected, abused, exploited, stray or homeless.For more than 50 years, QHS has been dedicated to protecting and promoting the humane treatment of animals in Prince Edward County, Hastings County, the City of Belleville and Quinte West.A registered non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, using a Governance model, and managed by a small, committed professional staff with the help of devoted volunteers.The shelter provides a safe and caring place for as many as 2,200 sick, abused, neglected and homeless animals each year. In addition, QHS returns lost pets to families, provides adoptable pets, and encourages spay/neuter, vaccinations and regular veterinary care.QHS is an autonomous self-governing charitable organization that enjoys beneficial working relationships with similar organizations and the support of the private sector and the communities it serves.In the fall of 2022 QHS operating as Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward (HSHPE), opened the doors to it’s brand new facility on Wallbridge Loyalist Road.  This much needed new facility was established through the direct contributions of donors, volunteers, municipal and provincial supports, the bulk of which came from donors.  This new facility features a modern, spacious design focused on comfort, safety and the well-being of both animals and people.  Included in the design were Animal Care Areas, Adoption and Meet-and-Greet Spaces, Community Outreach & Education Rooms, Administration Offices, Volunteer Areas, Green Spaces and Outdoor Play Areas along with many sustainable features.  This efficient design prioritizes eco-friendly design elements, calm atmosphere for both animals and visitors while ensuring high standards of care and operations.Future growth for HSHPE may include the feasibility of adding a veterinary clinic.  The Board of Directors along with the support of the staff and volunteers would explore facility requirements, staffing needs ensuring sustainability.  The business plan would outline operational costs, revenue forecasts, marketing strategies, and a timeline for launch. Dr. Elizabeth Berliner of Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program, Cornell University says this of QHS.  “The QHS leadership team has a blend of pragmatism, creativity, compassion, and optimism that brings success to what may at times seem like unsurmountable challenges.”Overview:As the ideal candidate, you embrace the challenges that come with positive growth and change, and derive immense satisfaction supporting animals in need.  You have demonstrated the ability to build and cultivate strong collaborative relationships with various stakeholders.  As a passionate ambassador who will act as a strong voice on behalf of QHS, you are respectful, honest, and transparent with the ability to influence change.  A progressive leader, your previous leadership experience and accomplishments in business and management, preferably within a member-based organization or charity, will position you for successWith the support of a dedicated team of about 20 professionals and 400 volunteers, the Executive Director will have overall responsibility for both the organization’s financial performance and operational activities.Specific Responsibilities Include:* Leadership** To create a positive working culture where staff and volunteers are fully engaged to maximize organizational effectiveness; and,** To maintain a positive labour relations relationship.* Human Resources** Managing and leading the recruitment process ensuring adequate staffing levels and quality is maintained;** Ensure staff orientation is properly delivered;** Assisting staff in understanding, applying and implementing all organizational policies and procedures; and,** Researching, planning and implementing appropriate Human Resource Services and initiatives to further organizational objectives;** Lead the organization in maintaining positive union – management relations; managing the grievance process and acting as the organizations lead in contract negotiations.* Health and Safety** Ensuring all reasonable measures are taken to protect the safety and health of staff, volunteers and visitors.* Finance** Developing, overseeing and managing all organizational financial matters including budget creation, execution and evaluation, capital expenditures, operating expenses and revenue and donor records;** Prepare annual operating plan to support creation of annual budget;** Ensuring payroll is delivered accurately and timely; and,** Overseeing purchasing and inventory control.* Fund Raising and Development** Overseeing the Direct Mail/Marketing program;** Working with and supporting the Fund-raising Committee;** Overseeing the execution of various Special Events and Capital Campaign activities;** Acquiring and nurturing corporate sponsor and donor relationships; and,** Managing the Donor Management System (Basic Funder).* Community Relations** Establishing and cultivating relationships with community partners;** Conducting all media relations and outreach; and,** Supporting the QHS Board of Directors including ongoing communications, attending monthly meetings and providing various operational reports.* Shelter Management: ** Oversee the maintenance of a clean, welcoming and safe shelter for animals, staff, volunteers and the public; and,** Provide leadership to staff in ensuring appropriate care of all animals.Who We’re Looking For:* University degree or college diploma in management or related discipline;* 5+ years progressive  managerial experience including managing a large group of volunteers;* 5+ years fundraising experience in the non-profit sector;* Ability to remain calm and professional in emotionally charged situations;* Ability to work in a fast paced environment, with the skill of multitasking and prioritizing in order to meet tight deadlines;* Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills including demonstrated ability to motivate staff;* Experience working with a Board of Directors;* Must be well disciplined, self-directed and organized;* Solid computer knowledge/skills to use Microsoft Office and Windows;* Willingness and ability to work flexible hours. Additional ‘nice to have’ qualification:* Knowledge and/or experience with PetPoint and web design.How to Apply:If this great opportunity looks incredible to you, we look forward to hearing from you.
