Key Responsibilities
Responsible for the supervision of the execution of all the TBM Mechanical activities including but not limited to assembly, start-up, maintenance, and disassembly. This role could also extend to supporting the STP assembly and start-up.
- Supervise the execution of all the TBM(STP) Mechanical activities including but not limited to assembly, start-up, maintenance, and disassembly.
- Ensure that all mechanical works are carried out in accordance with the agreed method statements and in line with the specifications provided by the TBM supplier.
- Ensure that all TBM mechanical works are carried out in accordance with safety and environment regulations and project quality standards.
- Prepare all documentation relating to TBM maintenance.
- Management and supervision of a team of TBM mechanics.
- Managing and ordering spare parts.
- Interface with other departments in a constructive way.
- Supervise and provide support for trouble shooting and preventive maintenance
- Organizing and planning work for future mechanical operations
- Carry out daily plant inspections, complete and submit maintenance/ breakdown reports
- Liaising with TBM Electrical team for planning of ongoing and future works
- Ensuring Method Statements and Risk assessments are in place for ongoing and future mechanical works
- Inspecting and auditing the plant to ensure optimum performance is maintained in accordance with Canadian Standards
- Responsible for accurate and effective shift handovers
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Trade or Qualification in Mechanical Engineering / Civil Engineering
- 2-3 years experience in civil or tunnelling construction, typically 2-3 years of experience in a supervisory role
- 2-3 years experience in basic use of Microsoft Office Suite, data and file recording
- 2-3 years' experience working on TBM projects
- 2-3 years experience on major infrastructure construction operations of similar scale with a proven ability to operate in a dynamic “live” environment and to meet significant program hurdles
- Experience in Safety, Community and Environmental Management
- Experience in Quality Management
- Experience in Planning & Resourcing
- In depth knowledge of TBM, slurry pump, Slurry Treatment Plant and associated tunnel related equipment
- Sound knowledge of civil construction materials / service
- Sound knowledge of local WHS standards and regulations
- Ability to supervise team members, work closely with safety and other departments to control and maintain project safety standards
- Demonstrate a positive and collaborative “can-do” attitude.
- Demonstrate initiative and creative problem-solving skills
- Practical knowledge and understanding of computers and Microsoft software packages.
- Good communication skill, both oral and written
- Mechanical or Electrical Trade background
- Ability to work to deadlines and targets and can prioritize tasks under pressure
- Good organizational skills with attention to detail
- Driving License
Compensation and Benefits
- $53 per hour. Shift workers will receive a shift premium in addition to their regular hourly rate. Employees/TBM Mechanics will be required to become members of Labourers International Union of North America, Local 183. (Monthly Membership Dues are $35.00 and Working Dues are 3% of Gross earnings)
- 37.5 hours/week and subject to overtime
- Employees/Members of Local 183 receive Vacation & Statutory Holiday Pay, Health & Welfare Benefits, Pension etc. for a Total Wage Package of $76.55 per hour (not including Supervisor Premium)
Working Conditions and Environment
- Primary work location at 1 Holt Road South, Bowmanville, Ontario, L1C 3Z8 with work and travel required throughout Ontario
- Project, training and business-related travel may be required.
- Exposure to construction work site environment in all seasons
- Relocation within Canada may be required. Relocation costs covered by employer
